Morning Coffee with FLN on Substack 04232024
Welcome to today’s post! Getting some Friday Night Light feelings . . . a neat movie that wasn’t as truthful as the book was . . .
The playoffs get underway with 1 Boys game and 15 Girls games! The FHSAA is trying their best to separate the Boys and Girls schedules given how many family pairings there are and to allow parents to see both siblings when the family has playing Boys and Girls. Thank you to them for going this route!
*****
The sole Boys game sees Bishop Verot traveling to Calvary Christian Clearwater (the at-large team travels for the first round to the lower ranked district winner for Round 1 only, otherwise, this would have been BV hosting the game as the #4 seed vs the #5.
Bishop Verot (15-5) comes into the game with a power ranking of 14.056 and SOS of 7.26, versus CCC (13-1), with a power ranking of 14.029 and SOS of 2.17. Obviously, based on the ranking, this is projected to be a very close matchup.
BV is led by senior Trey Toscano, with 88G/29A in 19 games and junior Jake Rodriguez with 55G/34A in 20 games. In goal, juniors Mason Mangold and Brendan Cronin have split the net and have similar save %’s near 59%. Junior Bobby Leckler went 78.8% this year. Senior Owen Rodriguez was credited with 71 takeaways and Jake Rodriguez with 50.
CCC unfortunately did not post their stats to MaxPreps. Their sole loss was an upset by Osceola. They do hold the 10-8 win over BV on April 5th and have also beaten Gulf Breeze, Forest and Lakeland.
This should be a beauty.
