Rockledge Update

I never heard back from the author of the article but have heard from a few parents and others involved in the sport in the area.

My best conclusion is that the Rockledge AD/Baseball Coach didn’t go out of his way to ‘save’ the programs. I’ll leave it up to him to defend his actions.

As far as thinking he understands the appeal or lack thereof of the sport, he’s kidding himself with the points he made.

Brevard County and Indian River County SHARE A BORDER. Vero Beach Girls DOMINATED the state for nearly a decade, winning many state titles and sending a ton of talent to college programs. Viera is a burgeoning PUBLIC SCHOOL hot bed, in Brevard County. Holy Trinity is a Top 20 1A program in the state.

Viera is NINE MILES from Rockledge . . . NINE MILES! Viera alum Tristan Chang played a significant role at a D1 school last season. Is the AD at Viera a LOT smarter than you in building lacrosse programs? The proof is in the pudding.

Edgewood is FIVE MILES from Rockledge . . . FIVE MILES. Somehow Lindsey Angermeier managed to overcome the ‘shrinking popularity’ in the area to get playing time as a D1 freshwoman last year coming out of Edgewood.

Those who submitted comments to me noted that Rockledge students were participating in summer programs and led Captain’s Practices in the fall. Shrinking demand for the sport? Seriously?

Lack of referees? Come on.

AD Clayborne, call it what it is . . . you didn’t give a s**t. Be honest.
