FHSAA Playoff Recap - Game 9

Boys 2A Final - St Thomas vs Ponte Vedra

*

St Thomas Captures the 2A Final with a Dominant Last 3 Quarters/Man Up Conversions in the 13-4 Win over Ponte Vedra

*

After a back and forth first quarter, St Thomas clamped down on Ponte Vedra’s offense and lit up the Man Up offense to the tune of 6 for 8, leading the Raiders back to the championship circle after the 2-year dominance of Lake Mary in 2A.

Making a case for national recognition (which I believe they earned), Diego Salazar led the mostly junior attack with 7 goals, with James Finch adding 2G/3A. STA’s defense was able to hold Ponte Vedra’s top offensive players in check and their offense threw 38 shot attempts (34 in the first 3 quarters) at the net, hitting the cage with 30 of them.

Ponte Vedra’s Jackson Hume kept the game within reach into the 3rd quarter, but eventually the number of scoring opportunities caught up with him.

St Thomas was the best 2A team in the state throughout the season and are a deserving title winner.
