FHSAA Playoff Recap - Game 11

Girls 2A Final - Plant vs Lake Mary

Plant Girls Ride Free Position Excellence and First Quarter Blitz to Region 3’s First State Title in 10-7 Win over Lake Mary

(Note: the Lake Mary numbers were very difficult to read, even on the replay I watched, so if I have anything incorrect in goal scorers/assists, let me know and I can make corrections. I was not sure on Lake Mary’s 3rd goal scorer and the assist on their 5th and 6th goals)

Region 3 has its standard-bearer this year. The Plant Girls captured their first title with a commanding first quarter outburst and held off a 2nd-half rally by Lake Mary. As I mentioned on the FHSAA halftime, this one was pretty easy to analyze, as seen in the first quarter recap below.

What was expected to be a very tight game based on their power rankings/SOS comparison, it didn’t start that way, as Plant’s top players produced 6 of their 8 goals in the 1st, while Lake Mary’s top players were put into ‘chase’ mode right away and took time to bring their talents to bear.

The two head coaches came into this game with different paths travelled. Plant Head Coach Jayne Chapman had announced this was her last year after many years at the helm, while Lake Mary’s Rick Weyers was in his second season, taking on the job late in the preseason in 2024. Coach Chapman went out with peace of mind in the best fashion; Coach Weyers has now made a title game in year two after a regional final in year one. Not a bad start to one and a darn good way to end for the other.
